In the center of our capital, one of the most beautiful and significant monuments rises majestically - the monument to Urkuya Salieva. Among the Kyrgyz she is known as a politician a defender of women's rights, an activist of social transformations.

Hero of the revolution U.Salieva was born on February 17, 1911, in the Nookat district in the village of Besh-Burkan in the family of a poor peasant. A girl from a peasant family since her teens fought for class equality and called for work and unity.

She was highly respected by the people; they called her "a woman aksakal". The local rich, who with all their might resisted the Soviet power, also agreed that the collective farm should be headed by a woman, mistakenly believing that she would not cope with a new and difficult task for her. The daughter of her people tried with all her might to meet the expectations of those around her.

Facts:

At the age of 17, she joined the Komsomol first among the girls of Soviet Kyrgyzstan. She became the secretary of the Komsomol cell and an activist of the movement.
At 18 she was elected chairman of the village council Merki-Murkut

1932 was admitted to the Communist Party;

Blinded by a fierce hatred of the new government, bai, hostile representatives of the bureaucratic elite and religious fanatics could not come to terms with the establishment of a new order and cruelly dealt with the fighters for a new life. On February 13, 1934, Urkuyu and her husband Koldosh were brutally killed by bandits. The killers were tried and sentenced to capital punishment.

The name of Urkuya, who died for the sake of a brighter future, and her merits have forever remained in the history of Kyrgyzstan. The well-known writer, poet Nasirdin Baytemirov dedicated the novel "Monument to History" to the activist. The image of Urkui inspired the famous sculptor Turgunbai Sadykov to create a monument to the Fighters of the Revolution. A tribute of great reverence, respect and love to Urkue, first of all, is paid by her fellow countrymen. A school in the village of Toolos, a street in Bishkek, a lyceum of exact sciences in Osh are named after Salieva.

Fragile, but strong in spirit, Urkuya fought for freedom, defended the rights of the poor, called for work and unity. She believed in a bright future for the common Kyrgyz people.
